Stephen Kowal

Stephen Kowal

Attorney at Law

Stephen brings to the practice a diverse and varied array of experience. An avid gardener, having graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration in 2008 from San Jose State University in California, he opened a landscape consultation business. Shortly thereafter, he decided to pursue his passion for justice and the law.

He attended Regent University School of Law, where he found a best friend and future wife, Marin Mooberry. Graduating and becoming licensed in 2012, his law practice initially focused on healthcare law and medical debt cases in California. He moved, got married, and began practicing law in New Mexico in 2014, where his focus was real estate, bankruptcy, negotiable instruments, creditor’s rights, and landlord-tenant law.

In 2021, Stephen left the practice of law to serve as a civilian in the United States Air Force, to stand up a new position representing servicemembers with their housing concerns. After establishing this new position at Kirtland Air Force Base, Stephen and his family relocated to Marin’s home town here in Benson.

When Stephen is not working, he loves to spend his time with his wife and three daughters, or fly around the local area.

Marin Kowal

Attorney at Law

Marin Kowal (née Mooberry) attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN where she earned her Bachelor’s degree with a double major in Classical Studies and Political Science, and a minor in History. Thereafter, Marin attended Regent University School of Law, in Virginia Beach, VA, where she met her best friend and future husband, Stephen Kowal.

Upon graduating from law school in 2012, Marin laid out a US map, closed her eyes, pointed, and landed in New Mexico. Knowing no one there, and having never even been there before, she quickly built a life and a career. She was admitted to the New Mexico State Bar in late 2012, and joined a creditor’s rights firm in 2013—an area of practice she continues today. She has practiced in several areas of law including real estate, bankruptcy, negotiable instruments, creditor’s rights, landlord-tenant law, contract law and title law. She also has garnered extensive motion practice, and has a significant background engaging in mediations and settlement negotiations.

A born and raised Benson native, Marin returned to Benson in June of 2023, after trying out other bits and pieces of the Nation, only to come to the conclusion that no other place holds quite the same appeal as “home.” Raising a young and growing family, Marin wanted her children to grow up the same way she did—in a small town, attending her alma mater (Benson Public Schools) and her church, with her extended family (the Mooberrys) nearby.
